Yearly reminder to use RSS – Manu:

The year is 2026, and RSS is still, by far, the best way to keep up with sites on the web.

If you already know what RSS is but you’re not currently using it, consider this a reminder for you to dust off that RSS reader of yours and put it back to use. And don’t listen to the party-poopers that claim that RSS is dead. It is not.

If instead you don’t know what RSS is, here’s a very brief explanation: RSS is a technology that allows you to create your own personal feed, using an RSS reader app, where content from different sources is aggregated and displayed—usually—in reverse chronological order.

The same way you use a browser to access my site, you can use an RSS reader app to access the RSS feeds available on my website. Keep in mind that not all sites have RSS feeds available. It used to be the norm, but then the web got enshittified.

You can find my RSS feed in the footer of this page.

🔗 Venezuela latest: Trump says US will 'run' Venezuela until 'safe transition can take place' - BBC News

President Trump says the US is going to "run" Venezuela "until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition"

This is Hitler and the Sudetes all over again. We might be afraid of the almighty power of the US military, but times call for unity and resistance against the illegal regime of Trump.

I liked this the most from Zohran Mamdani’s inauguration speech: “And they know that this belief could be made true if only the Government dared to work hardest for those who work hardest”.

In my daily conmute, I take the train at 6:30 am. There’s no bankers there, no politicians, no venture capitalits. There’s only hard women and men going to work, students going to their classes. People that do, with their hands and minds, what we all need someone to do. The people that give their best for the minimum pay and are entitled to a Government that works as hard as they do.

With ChatGPT+Gemini, I’ve been able to build a python script that lets me calculate judicial and administrative deadlines for any province in Spain, and make it available in a web app (to anybody interested in this kind of stuf in Spain, that is). I feel happy and silly. umerez.eu/calculado…

Robert, see you in Porto on the 7th of June.

Primer día de descanso real, primera migraña. Yupi.

Ya están en marcha las croquetas y el tomate para las pizzas de mañana.

    Hola, mundo.

    Have a good day.

I saw a blackbird a few days ago.

TODAY IS TALK LIKE YOU’RE IN PULP FICTION DAY -

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the stupidity of the needy and the tyranny of the arrogant. Blessed is he who, in the name of duty and justice, shepherds the weak through the valley of ignorance, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost causes.

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who waste my precious time with their self-importance.

I got me a briefing to finish for one who thinks the sun shines out his own ass, and I’d rather have my damn leg mangled in a bear trap than cater to his delusions.

But yea, though my patience is tested, I shall walk the path of honor, because the righteous endure, and the petty fall by the wayside. (Ezekiel 25:17ish).

It’s 2 a.m. and I finally found the answer I’ve been looking for for days. I could not understand why an opposing counsel was so confident that the statute of limitations for the fine his client (the government) is requiring my client to pay is five years, when every regulation I’ve seen in the last fifteen years sets it at four years. It turns out that this branch of government has its own regulation and it is actually five years. But I also found a loophole for this particular type of fine, so I can go to bed (for a very few hours) with a grin on my face. I can still win this.

    🔗 A swan won't prevent a hurricane

In today's example of how Google's AI overviews are the worst form of AI-assisted search (previously, hallucinating Encanto 2), it turns out you can type in any made-up phrase you like and tag "meaning" on the end and Google will provide you with an entirely made-up justification for the phrase.

OpenAI 4.o (mini) disappointed me too yesterday, when performing a search on legal matters. Completely made up a regulation, creating even fake sources.

🔗 Diane, I wrote a lecture by talking about it

Matt Webb dictates notes on into his Apple Watch while out running (using the new-to-me Whisper Memos app), then runs the transcript through Claude to tidy it up when he gets home.

I need to look into this.

    🔗 Backfill your blog

Fun fact: there's no rule that says you can't create a new blog today and backfill (and backdate) it with your writing from other platforms or sources, even going back many years.

I'd love to see more people do this!

I’ve done this every time I migrated my blog from Squarespace to Wordpress to Micro.blog. Rename it, “refound” it and backlog it with old posts. I didn’t know it was a thing.

J.D. Vance visited the Pope of the Catholic Church in Rome. Hours later, the Pope died. Reports are sketchy, but we know he was pretty much alive before and during the meeting. Just stating the facts here.
